Questo è il Villaggio Coppola, un insediamento urbano realizzato negli anni ’60/’70 sulla costa settentrionale di Napoli.
Questo è un ottimo esempio di ciò che la Camorra (mafia napoletana) aveva creato e, allo stesso tempo, distrutto con l’aiuto della Marina americana americana che un tempo viveva qui in lussuose residenze sulla spiaggia. Dopo pochi decenni la Marina americana costruì una nuova base non lontano da qui e il Villaggio Coppola fu abbandonato al suo destino, diventando una delle zone più degradate d’Italia e probabilmente d’Europa.
Quando avevo 19 anni avevo qui una ragazza che mi portava in giro, ricordando i bei momenti in cui poteva uscire con i suoi coetanei americani avendo avuto la fortuna di imparare l’inglese fin dall’infanzia… grazie alle storie di Alice ho davvero apprezzato quello che c’era, nonostante il triste finale, ho sempre potuto vedere una speranza per queste terre e questi mari selvaggi.
Al giorno d’oggi la Camorra controlla la maggior parte delle imprese di quest’area e nessuno vede un futuro positivo davanti a sé!
Popolato per lo più da immigrati fuggiti dalle proprie terre in cerca di una nuova vita in Italia, offre solo lavori sottopagati nei campi o negli allevamenti di bufale gestiti principalmente dalla camorra…oggi Castel Volturno sembra un film surreale..
Tutte queste storie e le diverse esperienze con l’inquinamento ambientale della zona da cui provengo, mi hanno portato ad elaborare l’argomento della tesi finale della mia laurea in Architettura nel 2014 sviluppata con l’aiuto del Professor Vito Cappiello. (Vedi collegamento qui sotto)
Grazie al coraggio che ho avuto in quel periodo e motivato dall’ambizione, ho fatto la mia scelta di andare all’estero e imparare come salvare la regione a cui appartengo, orgoglioso di essere quello e dove sono oggi nel mio percorso professionale/di vita…
Oggi posso finalmente vedere un futuro più prospero, poiché la popolazione è in aumento, infatti, lasciare le città e ripopolare ciò che abbiamo lasciato decenni fa sara’ un’ottima alternativa.

This is Villaggio Coppola, an urban development built during the 60’s/70’s on the northern coast of Naples.
This is a great example of what Camorra (Neapolitan Mafia) had created and, at same time, destroyed with the help of the American US Navy that once used to live here in luxury residences on the beach. After few decades the US Navy built a new base not far from here and Villaggio Coppola was abandoned to its destiny, becoming one the most decayed areas in Italy and probably in Europe.
When I was 19 years old I used to have a girlfriend here who was taking me around, recalling the great times when she was able to hang out with American kids and lucky to learn English since her childhood…thanks to Alice stories I really appreciated what was there, despite the sad ending I always could see a hope for this savaged lands and sea.
Nowadays Camorra controls most of the businesses of this area and none can see a bright future ahead!
Mostly populated by immigrants who escaped from their lands looking for a new life in Italy, it offers only underpaid jobs in the fields or in the buffalo farms mainly managed by Camorra…today Castel Volturno looks like a surreal movie ..
All these stories and several experiences with environmental pollution in the area where I come from, made me elaborating the topic of the final thesis of my Architecture degree in 2014 developed with the help of Professor Vito Cappiello . (See link below )
Thanks to the courage I had that time and motivated by ambition, I made my choice to go abroad and learn how to save the region I belong to, proud to be what and where I am today on my professional/life pathway…
Today it is finally clear that as population is increasing we will need to leave the cities and populate again the areas we left behind decades ago.
